The CETE Club Returns to Playa Escalera in Rincón to Take Guardarenas Measurements

April 2, 2019

The new members of the Club of Ecotourism Students (CETE) from Manuel García Pérez High School in Rincón, along with their teacher Mrs. Otero, went to Playa Escalera to take several measurements for the Guardarenas Project. For several years, this club has been studying this beach to observe the changes that occur in it. However, this time, most of the participants were members who joined this year (although some previous members were also present). Before the students visited the beach on April 2, 2019, we were at the school to teach them how to work with the Abney Level and show them how to measure the beach profile. This helped us carry out this activity in the field, as the students knew and understood how to do it. On April 11, 2019, we visited Playa Escalera, part of the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve in Rincón. There, the students measured the width and profile of the beach, analyzed the sand in three different areas, and checked the water quality. They were extremely excited because they are working to conserve this valuable ecosystem. Keep going!
