Recognition for the Social Commitment of Youth Involved in Sea Grant Program Initiatives in Tres Palmas Marine Reserve

May 31, 2018

On Thursday, May 31, 2018, the Manuel García Pérez High School in Rincón held its Achievement Day. During this event, graduating students who achieved excellent academic performance throughout the school year and also stood out working in different areas of their community were honored. In this activity, agencies such as Emergency Management, the National Guard, the Juvenile Cooperative Triunfadores Rincoeños, and various universities and institutes such as the Catholic University, the Metropolitan University, the National College, among many others, awarded prizes to students who excelled during their volunteer work in these institutions. The Sea Grant Program of the University of Puerto Rico was also present to recognize the commendable work of several students who worked hard for the conservation and protection of the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve in Rincón. The awarded students were Néstor Rivera, Cristalis Luciano, and Deyaneira Rivera Altieri. These students belong to the Club of Ecotourism Students (CETE), and together with their group, they dedicated their time and effort to promote the protection of this Reserve, which is essential for their town. They demonstrated an impressive social commitment and great environmental awareness. They worked tirelessly and undoubtedly left an indelible mark. This is just the beginning of many achievements these students will reach. The important thing is to set goals and, with the dedication, effort, and discipline they have always shown, work hard until they achieve them. We know they will. We wish them the greatest success, keep moving forward. Congratulations!
