The University of Puerto Rico Sea Grant Program began a pilot project to implement and measure the mangrove forests and seagrass beds educational guides’ effectiveness in teaching these topics in Puerto Rico’s public and private schools. This project took place during the January-May semester in 2016 and involved a visit to the participating schools to offer a lecture/workshop for the students and a fieldtrip to Playita Rosada in La Parguera, Lajas, PR. Educators, on their part, taught these topics within the curricular framework they use and measured student learning through the pre- and post-tests provided by the Program. This webpage’s menu offers additional details about these activities with students and teachers and presents photographs about the different activities practiced during the fieldtrips.
