1. Beach Use and Management – With this presentation, you will understand what a beach is, what are its characteristics, and the importance of conserve them. It also includes information about dunes and the benefits they offer to beach stability. Likewise, it shows how human activities negatively impact this resource. Each slide contains additional information that teachers can use to more efficiently teach students the topic at hand. It is recommended for use through 2 -3 class periods.

2. Introduction to Puerto Rico’s Marine Ecosystems – This presentation gives a general overview of the different marine ecosystems found in Puerto Rico. It goes on to showcase some of the threats against these ecosystems, and some ways in which we can conserve our marine environment. We recommend using 1 – 2 class periods (50 min.) for this presentation. In the first period, the class can discuss the different ecosystems, and in the second period, the threats they face. This presentation was used in the Sea Encounter activity, offered on September 1st, 2012. The presentation has been designed for use with the Sea Encounter book, published by UPR Sea Grant.

3. Careers in Marine Sciences – Marine Sciences study the seas, oceans, and all their components. This science also studies the different aspects and processes that affect the seas and oceans, such as chemistry, physics, biology and geology. If the moment of choosing a college career draws near, but you don’t know what to study, the Careers in Marine Sciences offers information on all the disciplines comprising marine sciences, so you can make an educated decision about your future.
